We are delighted to report on the first highly successful CCF cadet field trip to Thriftwood that took place over the weekend. Students from Years 8, 9, and 10 attended, demonstrating outstanding dedication and teamwork throughout the intensive weekend. The weekend began with essential training, focusing on setting up camp and mastering survival skills. Cadets learned the vital skill of cooking rations in the field and received foundational lessons in basic fieldcraft on how to soldier. It was an early start on Saturday for a refresher on field cooking before a packed day of military skills training, covering the following lessons:
The day concluded with well-deserved games of football, tug of war and roasting marshmallows around a campfire on Saturday night. Sunday shifted focus to adventure and teamwork with a range of challenging activities, including rock climbing, precision training with air rifle shooting, and the thrilling descent of the zip line.
All students conducted themselves exemplarily throughout the entire weekend and were a credit to the academy. Their positive attitude and commitment to learning were commendable. Looking ahead, the cadets will build on this experience by learning how to safely handle the British rifle (SA80) and will prepare for exciting future trips to live ranges to practice shooting.
Rehearsals are in full swing for the upcoming Gateway Academy musical production of Hairspray, and the cast and crew are working incredibly hard to bring the show to life. The energy, talent, and dedication from everyone involved is truly inspiring as they prepare for what promises to be a fantastic performance. Here are some sneak preview photos giving you a behind-the-scenes look at all the hard work going on — we can’t wait for you to see the final show!
Well done to the Year 9 students for their fantastic effort in making delicious quiches! Your creativity and attention to detail in both flavour and presentation really shone through. It’s clear that you put in a lot of thought and care into your work — from selecting tasty ingredient combinations to ensuring each quiche was cooked to perfection. A great example of practical skills, teamwork, and culinary talent coming together. Keep up the great work!
Students have made a fantastic start on their third and final unit for their GCSE coursework. This portrait project is very different to the last environment unit, students are taking photographs of each other using dramatic lighting along with expression and viewpoints. The quality of the work coming through is a very hot high standard and students are paving the way to exceptional results.
Congratulations to the Gateway Academy’s new Head Students:
Watch the stunning video put together with students, reciting the ‘We are Gateway’ poem.
This week marked a proud moment for The Gateway Academy as its newly formed Cadet Force held its very first parade. Dressed smartly in their freshly issued uniforms, the cadets stood tall and proud.
6 students are eligible to join Mensa as a result of their scores in last term’s tests. Membership is offered to anyone achieving a score in the top two percent of the population. On the Cattell B test used at the school session, the required score was 148; the average IQ score is 100.
We now have 16 students as Mensa members at Gateway, a remarkable achievement.
Further tests are planned each term this year.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the GA Open Evening, we hope you found the evening informative and enjoyed the activities that were there for you to enjoy.
A fun time was had at our recent Basketball Camp in the beautiful town of A Rua, Ourense, Spain
During the 9 day camp our players were exposed to a higher level of basketball, working really hard with 2 practices and games everyday, instructed by former and current pro players and coaches from Spain. We hiked up a ‘small’ mountain, went swimming every day and took part in early sunrise yoga & meditation sessions, overlooking the amazing backdrop that surrounds the campus.
There were some excellent individual & team performances from our UK players winning and representing well in the 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5 competition’s, playing with and also against the Spanish. However some of the biggest victories happened off the court, such as the personal battles that were overcome in making it to the top of the mountain when quitting and giving up seemed the easiest path.
The true highlights of the camp, making memories and forming friendships that will last a lifetime.
