  • Duke of Edinburgh

    Published 10/08/25

Eleven determined students have successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze Award expedition, covering an impressive 25km over two challenging days. Carrying everything they needed — including tents, stoves, sleeping bags, and food — the team demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and a positive spirit throughout the journey.

The group cooked their own meals, prepared dinner and breakfast to fuel their adventure, and faced the physical demands of hiking with heavy packs across varied terrain. Despite the challenges, every student completed the expedition with determination and a well-earned sense of achievement.

Well done to all involved — a fantastic effort and a memorable experience!

The district athletics competition took place last week to finish of the year in sport.  This is a competition that Gateway has excelled in over the last 3 years, and once again proved to be a huge success.  We came back with an outstanding 17 gold medals across the age groups alongside a number of other podium positions, which is a testament to the hard work of our pupils.  It was also a pleasure to welcome back so many year 11’s who were keen to compete and represent the school one last time, which shows the culture and ethos amongst our pupils. All pupils were a credit to the school, and we look forward to defending the title again next year.

  • JRNBA BASKETBALL – NEWS FLASH

    Published 27/05/25

    • 3 out of our 4 teams have all qualified for the London JrNBA Finals.  The Y8 Girls, Y8 Boys and Y7 Boys all won their semi-finals that took place early this week at The Gateway Academy.
    • The Y8 girls had a convincing 48-25 win against a talented Bacons College.  Top scorer was Katie with 12pts followed by 8pts each from Heaven, Allanah and Emily.
    • The Y8 boys followed with an equally convincing victory in their semi-final against Rokeby School, winning 34-10.  Top Scorer was Tobi with 13pts, followed by Michael with 11pts and the rest of the team chipping in with 2pts each.
    • Keeping in fashion with the Y8’s  the Y7 boys also had a commanding victory against another good team, beating Brampton Manor 28-11.  Top scorer was Vakaris with 8pts, followed by 4pts each from Zach, Ryan and Kyngsley.
    • I’m absolutely delighted to have 3 teams all qualify for the finals.  The Y7 girls have also been training very hard over these past few months and have made huge improvements.  They are also in with a good chance of making it 4 from 4 for Gateway in the finals.  That would be amazing!!
    • The JNBA finals taking place at the UEL Sportsdock will be on 19th June for Y7’s and 20th June for Y8’s.

Our basketball students have worked extremely hard all year to get to this stage. Lots of mornings arriving early to shoot 200 shots before school starts, and lots of late evenings staying behind after school for the team practices and fixtures.

I could not be more proud of everyone’s efforts and how far we have come.   We are just getting started..!!
