All Different: All Equal
Together, Improving Upon Our Best

More Able

At The Gateway Academy, we believe passionately that our More Able students need access to a wider range of opportunities both within and outside of the classroom.

Since the inception of Grammar Band over 8 years ago, Gateway Academy More Able students in Grammar Band have achieved over 1,200 Grade 7-9s or equivalent. Significantly, our students achieve above the National Average at Grades 7-9 in a wide range of subjects as a result of their own hard work and the expert teaching and support they receive.

More Able students at The Gateway Academy have access to a wide range of extra and super-curricular opportunities. These include Academic Masterclasses across a range of themes, delivered by our subject experts. This year's Academic Masterclasses can be viewed below.

More Able students in Years 10 and 11 have their own dedicated academic mentor and are encouraged to develop their own sense of academic rigour through focused discussion on their progress and attainment.

In addition, there are visits to Oxford and Cambridge Universities as well as talks and presentations given by their regional outreach teams here at the Academy.

This year we are partnering with the Philosophy Foundation to enhance our students' critical thinking skills; students will have the opportunity to develop their approach to critical and extended writing through a range of debates and discussions.
