Why don’t we all speak the same language?

In this Masterclass, we explored the concept of linguistic drift and the factors that influenced the changes to language over many thousands of years and how some words have been retained in English from many different languages over time.  Led by Mr Zeffie, students looked at how language families are related and how, even if you do not speak a particular language, you could still understand parts of it using knowledge of English.  Over 65 students were in attendance, with all students commenting about how they had gained information beyond what they would usually learn in the classroom.
