Dear Parents/Carers

We are writing to inform you that there have been a number of positive COVID cases in Year 8 and as a result, we have no option but to close the Year 8 Bubble at this time.

 The Year 8 cohort of students are expected to self‐isolate for 10 full days from today, Monday 28 June 2021.  We will contact any direct ‘contacts’ with the confirmed cases of COVID 19 today.

Can I ask that parents and carers refrain from putting information on social media that is not accurate and speak to The Gateway Academy if they have direct questions.

Please e‐mail Miss Newton, if you require further information.

Please also be aware we will not give out any personal details, including the names regarding any staff member or students who test positive for COVID 19.

We appreciate that our students, parents/carers and staff will be upset with further disruption to the academic year.  I would urge parents and carers, however, to support us as much as possible with their child accessing online learning.

We will organise their online learning to start from tomorrow period 1 at 08:30 (please see your child’s timetable HERE All lessons will be “live” and students are expected to attend.

A reminder of the following:

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19 If your child develops symptoms of COVID‐19, they should isolate and get tested.

Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via‐for‐a‐ coronavirus‐test

How to stop COVID‐19 spreading There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID‐19.  Do:

● wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds;

● use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available;

● wash your hands as soon as you get home;

● cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze;and

● put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards.

● Following Government guidance in relation to the wearing of face masks and social distancing measures.

Further information is available at Coronavirus (COVID‐19).

I understand that parents/carers, students and staff will be frustrated with the ongoing Covid situation, could I please ask that you show understanding and appreciate that we are continuing to do our very best in these challenging times.

Yours sincerely

Mrs G McLaughlin
