Dear Parent/Carer

INFORMATION REGARDING THE BEGINNING OF NEXT TERM – SPRING 2021

We are writing to inform you that following the Government announcement yesterday evening there will be a staggered start for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students next term.

Year 11 Students, Vulnerable Students and Key Worker Students Year 11 students, vulnerable students and key worker students are expected to come to school as normal from Tuesday 5 January 2021. The parents and carers of key worker students and vulnerable students will be contacted by a member of staff regarding the provision that will be in place for your child. This will be predominately on‐line learning alongside the rest of their peers who are working from home and some taught
lessons throughout the school day. If you believe your child is entitled to this provision, please contact Miss Newton (kerry.newton@theglc.org.uk) regarding this. Year 11 students will follow their normal timetable and are expected to be on time to all lessons and stay for their timetabled ALPS sessions.

Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 Students
All Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students are expected to complete their online learning from Tuesday 5 January 2021.

Whilst we understand that families are facing a lot of challenges with the current COVID crisis, we are also under no illusion of the importance of education in supporting your child both now and in the future.

Please attached your child’s timetable with effect from Tuesday 5 January 2021. Students are expected to undertake the ‘live’ lessons as indicated on their timetable and use the additional time throughout the day to complete homework, revise, etc. We would appreciate your full support with ensuring your child is ready to learn, undertakes ‘live’ learning with the right attitude and completes any follow up home learning. If your child does not have access IT access, it is vitally important that you contact us to see if we can support in any way. Please e‐mail Miss Newton (kerry.newton@theglc.org.uk). Please be aware that whilst your child is undertaking ‘live’ lessons, it is not appropriate for parents or carers to speak to the member of staff teaching at this time. If you wish to speak to any member of staff, please continue to go through the normal channels and telephone us on 01375 489000.

Covid 19 Testing On Site
The Government have indicated that all Secondary Schools will have the ability to offer students rapid testing for COVID from January 2021. We are currently awaiting further details from the Department of Education regarding this and will inform parents and carers as soon as we have more information.

Thank You
Again, a massive thank you to all parents and carers for your support during this time. We are incredibly proud of our students and our staff for all of their work this term, especially under the challenging circumstances COVID has brought every area of our community and the UK this year.

We return on a Week 1 and the online learning will start Tuesday 5 January 2021.

Yours sincerely

Mrs G McLaughlin
