Dear Parents/Carers

At the Academy we are committed to keeping you as updated as possible and so thought we would write to let you know how the first term is progressing.

Student Attendance
I am delighted to report that attendance for the academic year so far is 93%, which is above the national average and is a real testament to students, parents/carers and Gateway Academy staff all working together.

The Academy Day
A massive thank you for all the positive feedback with regards to the academy day. We will continue to monitor this over the coming weeks.

Additional Learning Periods and Saturday School
For Year 11 and Year 10 students, we will be starting additional learning periods (ALPs) after the half term break (with effect from Monday 2 November 2020) and also a Saturday School for select students. We are always eager to support our students as much as possible during these times.

Dance Challenge
To encourage some more positivity across every area of our community and to release some of the pressures we have all experienced with the COVID crisis, we here at The Gateway Academy are challenging students, families and staff to participate in our dance challenge for this half term. There will be prizes for some of the best dance routines for students, staff and families. Please click on this link to learn the steps. Good luck, have fun and get your families involved too!

Positives
We have currently awarded twenty‐one Golden Tickets. These are given out to students who are consistently ‘improving upon their best’, and/or do something that is exceptional. We have also sent over 500 positive texts and emails home.

Our students are simply the best!

Thurrock Food Bank

We are continuing to assist Thurrock Food Bank and are taking part
in the Harvest Food Collection this year. Students will see the
following banners outside the base rooms: If you have any donations,

Harvest Fest
please drop these off to one of Harvest Food Bank collection bins located around the Academy. Donations of tinned and packaged, non‐perishable food are very welcome. They would also be grateful for donations of shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, toothbrushes and cleaning materials. Thank you for your continued assistance in this matter.

It is just wonderful to see that the fantastic learning atmosphere and the willingness of staff and students to go that extra mile is extraordinary.

Kind regards,

Yours sincerely

Mrs G McLaughlin
