Dear Parent/Carer

Thank you once again for your support throughout this challenging time. I am aware that this is becoming
more and more difficult for parents, students and staff who are eagerly waiting for our Academy to reopen
in full capacity so that students can resume their lessons and probably more importantly see their friends
and have a sense of ‘normality’.

It is with sad regret that I am unable to write to you with details of our provision for September, we are
awaiting further Government guidance regarding this. We are planning for all possible scenarios and I
will send you out further information in due course. Ideally, we hope that we can open our Academy to
all of our students but this will be dependent on Government guidance.

On line and live lessons
 We are trialling on line ‘live’ lessons with a number of class groups throughout the Academy. It is
clear that we need to invest heavily in a different method of teaching and learning so our students can
interact more with their teachers and can get more in‐depth feedback with regard to their work, if we
are unable to open at full capacity in September.

Year 6 Induction
 We will conduct a virtual transition event with the students and parents and provide resources to
support them with their learning over the summer break.
 We will also give all new Year 7 students an opportunity to meet with their tutor either virtually or on
our Academy site before the end of this academic year. We will send you more details regarding this
next week.
 The above will replace our usual transition methods which we are unable to offer due to current
restrictions.

Year 7 students
 We have made the decision to continue with the mini options process for our Year 7 students who will
be moving into Year 8 next academic year. You will receive further details this week regarding this.

Year 8 students
 Thank you to the Year 8 students for selecting their options, we are just finalising the class sizes and
you will then be notified with more details.

Year 9 students
 We have submitted the Year 9 estimated GCSE Statistics results to the examination board. Exam
boards are now applying their moderation process to all schools. We will write to you with regards
to exam results day in August when we know further information.

Year 10 students
 It is great to have our wonderful Year 10 students back with us at the Academy. If you wish your child
to return to school at some point before September 2020, please could you email Julian.moruzzi@theglc.org.uk or telephone 07860 910844. We require you to do this, in order that we may add your child’s name to our waiting list. Your child will be offered a place if it can be accommodated in a room whilst maintaining ‘social distancing’ [i.e. the Government’s guidance
currently indicates a two‐metre gap]. Typically, this could be as few as ten places per classroom.

 We have submitted Year 10 estimated GCSE English Literature and Religious Studies grades to the
examination board. We will write to you with regards to exam results day in August when we know more details.

Year 11 students
 We have submitted all of the Year 11 grades to the examinations boards. We will write to you with
regards to exam results day in August.
 In terms of our Year 11 graduation, when the Government guidance in relation to COVID 19 changes and we are allowed mass gatherings, we will do something for you to mark the end of our Year 11’s time with us and give them the opportunity to say goodbye to their year group and their staff. We know this is important for them and a memory they deserve to have.
 In terms of your child’s ‘next steps’, please e‐mail Frank frank.thompson@theglc.org.uk if you have any concerns or worries.

Whole School Information
 I am delighted that we are fully staffed for the upcoming year with staff retention remaining over 80% for the last three academic years. This puts us in a very strong position to continue to ‘improve upon our best.’ It is this continuity and strength in every area of the curriculum and across the Academy that ensures we continue to go from strength to strength.
 We are continuing to support within our community and are still donating visors and food parcels.
 Our library is currently having a complete refurbishment, we will have additional computers and laptop access for the students next academic year and will be looking to further extend the opening hours for our fantastic students.

Thank you again for your support at this time. Please continue to look after yourselves, your family, friends and community at this time.

Kind regards,

Yours sincerely
