The Gateway Academy welcomed a host of Inspirational Women in to the Marshfoot Road site to celebrate International Women’s Day on Thursday 8 March.

Year 7 and 8 students were encouraged to write about their most Inspirational Woman and to invite them in to the Academy to share tea, cake and stories and to listen to guest speakers who were delighted to share their life-stories to empower the young women of today.

The Port of Tilbury kindly sponsored the event and provided an iPad to the student who provided the best inspirational story. Year 7 student, Andra, was very happy to accept her prize! (see pictured with event organiser and Head of Pride College, Miss Mercedes Foy).

Miss Mercedes Foy, Head of Pride College and event organiser, said “I would like to thank everyone for coming along today and supporting such an important day. Thank you also to our inspirational visitors and the Port of Tilbury for sponsoring the event and for providing an iPad for the best inspirational story. The stories that the students wrote were so thoughtful and beautiful to read. To see so many staff, students, parents and members of the community united to celebrate this day was truly amazing to see.”
