Early Career Framework

The aim of the new extended induction period for Early Career Teachers is to improve the professional entitlement of newly qualified teachers and provide them with the strongest foundations possible as they begin their careers. As a result, ECTs are given the best starting point to build on what has been learnt in the Initial teacher training year and deliver excellent teaching and learning opportunities for our students.

Under the Early Career framework, the NQT period has been increased from one year to two years starting from September 2021. The two-year induction works from a new detailed framework that complements the Teachers’ Standards. The framework is delivered at the Gateway Academy as a core programme built around the support materials published by the Ambition Institute and designed using the expert teaching practice and knowledge of our Academy colleagues. All new teachers (ECT) who join the Gateway Academy will work through the framework together with an assigned mentor and will be expected to attend a suite of training that includes 6 focused clinics and other CPD opportunities. At the end of the two-year period all ECTs are reviewed against the Teachers’ Standards which is supported by our appropriate body Thurrock Council.
