Opportunity to come into the Academy

18 June 2020

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing with reference to my previous letters welcoming your son/daughter to our Academy. As you are aware we have always prided ourselves in offering our Year 6 transition students the opportunity to attend a two-week transition period in the final weeks of the summer term. Due to the current restrictions surrounding COVID 19, we are unable to do this for the first time in our history.

However, on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 July 2020, we are planning to offer your son/daughter the opportunity to come into school and have a one hour thirty-minute session with their tutor with a maximum of ten other members of their tutor group (social distancing measures will be in place) to do a “getting to know you” activity. We will also provide students with some key learning material to support them over the summer break and ensure they are ready for the new academic year.,

The idea behind this session is to give our young people the opportunity to get to know other students and to answer any of the questions they might have before joining us in September 2020. We are eager to reduce any anxieties our young people might feel over the Summer as we are aware starting Secondary School is a big transition.

Could you please complete the attached survey by Thursday 25th June, indicating if you would like your child to attend the ‘getting to know you’ session.

A reminder of the following:

1. Students who are deemed to be ‘clinically extremely vulnerable’ or ‘clinically vulnerable’ should not attend school [i.e. not attend the site].

2. Students who live with someone who is ‘extremely clinically vulnerable’ should not attend school as it cannot be guaranteed that they can socially distance [i.e. keep two metres apart].

All of this information (and more) can be found in our Student Zone, under the category ‘New Year 7’ (http://www.theglc-gatewayacademy.org.uk/370/new-year-7) for ease of reference. We also posted a series of transition tasks for students to work through to help them feel prepared for September 2020, as well as a virtual tour of our wonderful Academy.

If you have any concerns or would like further information regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact Sarah Shaw, Assistant Principal via e-mail gateway-transition@theglc,org.uk.
Best wishes,

Yours sincerely

Mrs G McLaughlin
