Teachers who ran the Marathon 2016!
Marathon times below - well done to both teachers for raising funds for Ormiston Families!
Mr Clark; 4hr 10min 7 sec
Mr Hunnisett; 4hr 21min 22sec
Head of Phoenix College, Mr Matt Clark and Vice Principal, Mr Nathan Hunnisett, are tackling the 2016 London Marathon in aid of Ormiston Families, a charity close to the heart of the Gateway Academy.
Ormiston Families support families who may require more support around the country and the school's very own Mrs Helen Ellis, who works for the charity, supported the pair in securing their spaces to run in the famous race.
With only 60 days to go (24 April is race day) training started very slowly, but the brave pair are starting to get the miles under their belts. With a 14 mile run in half term being their first over the half marathon distance, 24 February after school will see them try to tackle 16 miles!
Both have previously run the Marathon once, with Mr Clark also completing the Edinburgh Marathon and Mr Hunnisett completing the Brighton Marathon last year.
Mr Clark and Mr Hunnisett said "We will add more photos as we train and from the day on this website, so keep updated and track our progress here. We are aiming to run it in just under 4 hours. To put it in to perspective, it is approximately 42 laps of the cross country field!"

With four and a half weeks to go, the miles have been upped and the legs are sore! Matt made the error of playing football before going on a two and a half hour run this week and was still paying for it on Wednesday.
Next week sees them go out over the Easter weekend to complete a twenty miler, which could be the longest distance they run before the actual day. Matt said, "We need to be getting round that in about three hours if we are to complete our sub four hour marathon. The Easter break will give us some spare time to get some shorter, quicker runs in to help build up some more muscle, but once we are back at school we will only have two weeks until the big day."
Please get your money in to support their cause! Our chosen charity is Ormiston Families and you can donate on our justgiving page: www.justgiving.com/mattandnathan
