Results & Performance Tables
Students, parents and staff at the Gateway Academy in Tilbury are celebrating significantly improved GCSE results this year. Many students opened their results envelope to find that they had achieved the government’s gold standard of a minimum of 5 A*-C GCSE passes including English and Maths. This is particularly impressive as over that last few years there has been a significant increase in the pass mark for key subjects such as English and Mathematics.
Gateway has made great progress in the course of the year resulting in some outstanding achievements: the GCSE headline figure improved by 11%; A*-C in English improved by an impressive 17%; A*-C in Mathematics improved by 5%, with 3 students achieving the highest possible grade, A* distinction in Further Maths, placing them in the top 1% of all students across the UK. The Gateway also achieved more A*-A grades than ever before.
Gateway’s Head of School, Miss Grainne McLaughlin, said “It has been fantastic to speak to our students and their parents as they collect their GCSE results. Our top six students between them achieved 65 A/A* grades. We are extremely proud of all of our students and their teachers for the hard work and dedication they have shown over the last year in preparation for the GCSE examinations. Over 75% of students regularly attended after school, weekend and holiday classes over the last year which is reflected in the fantastic results that we see here today. We wish our students every success in the next stage of their education, training or employment.”
The Gateway Learning Community Trust’s CEO, Mr Kevin Sadler, added “Grainne and her team have created something really special at Gateway: not only are results improving significantly, but the ethos is just wonderful. It’s a great place to work and to learn.” He went on to say that “Gateway’s improved results and a very positive outcome for Lansdowne Primary Academy in its recent Ofsted inspection demonstrate what can be achieved through a partnership of local schools.”
