GA Results 2017

Students, parents and staff at the Gateway Academy in Tilbury are celebrating a year in which the GCSE results held steady, despite the new style, more challenging, GCSE examinations. Many students opened their results envelope to find that they had achieved the government’s gold standard of a minimum of 5 GCSE passes including English and Maths [at the new 9-4 grading].

Gateway’s more able students have performed particularly well with 9 achieving the new highest possible Grade 9 in Maths and/or English, which is an incredible achievement.  There were also significant improvements in a range of subjects across the Academy including Maths, Science, Spanish, Psychology and Art.

Gateway’s Head of School, Mrs Grainne McLaughlin, said “It has been fantastic to speak to our students and their parents as they collect their GCSE results. Our top seven students [pictured] between them achieved over 50 of the highest A*-A/9–7 grades.    It is important that I stress that we are extremely proud of all of our students and their teachers for the hard work and dedication they have shown over the last year in preparation for the GCSE examinations and other equivalent qualifications including construction.  Over 75% of students regularly attended after school, weekend and holiday classes over the last year which is reflected in the fantastic results that we see here today. We wish our students every success in the next stage of their education, training or employment.”

The Gateway Learning Community Trust’s CEO, Mr Kevin Sadler, added “Grainne and her team have created something really special at Gateway; not only are results improving significantly, but the ethos is just wonderful.  It’s a great place to work and to learn.”  He went on to say that “Gateway’s results are a good indication of the recent improvement secured in the school and with the most experienced team of teachers ever to be recruited to the academy, the future for all our young people looks encouraging.”

Gateway’s top seven students, pictured left to right with Head of School, Mrs Grainne McLaughlin, are; Radu, Klaudia, Molly, Konrad, Daniel, Ellie-May & Chloe. Students are hoping to attend Palmer’s, SEEVIC & Harris to study many wide-ranging courses from Biology, Economics, English Literature, History to Maths and Photography.

The Gateway Academy is a partner within the Gateway Learning Community [GLC], which incorporates 5 local schools with the mission to transform its community by working together to provide the best educational provision for all young people. The Gateway Academy is recognised by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust as one of the UK’s most improved schools.
