Houses of Parliament

GA Houses of Parliament 0

Year 8 & 9 More Able and Student Leadership students recently attended the Houses of Parliament for a tour and to take part in a ‘Debating in Parliament’ workshop in the new Parliamentary Education Centre.

The tour included a visit to the ‘Robing Room’, which is principally used by the Queen for the State Opening of Parliament before she makes her way to the House of Lords. They then moved onto the House of Commons but unfortunately as the MPs were debating, they were unable to enter. Thankfully, local MP Jackie Doyle-Price kindly spoke to the students about daily life in parliament and took part in a  ‘question and answer’ session. Students gained an insight into what happens in parliament on a daily basis and learnt how issues are debated. They also learnt terminology and protocols.

Raising Standards Assistant, Mrs Anna Jones, said “Once again, this was a very successful visit and the students’ knowledge and interest in the Houses of Parliament has been significantly increased by being able to see it for themselves.”
